Early Childhood Screening
In Minnesota all children are required to complete Early Childhood Screening before they enter Kindergarten. The best time to do this screening is before your child's 4th birthday (ideally between 3 1/2 and 4 years of age).
Early Childhood Screening provides the following health and developmental screening components:
- Height and Weight
- Vision and Hearing Check
- Immunization and Health History Review
- Developmental Screening
Why screening?
- To find out how your child is doing
- To identify any health or developmental concerns early
- To provide you with information and resources for supporting your child's development, including possible referral for further developmental evaluation
- To connect you with Early Childhood programs in your community
Early Childhood Screening does not replace a well-child exam with your child's doctor or pediatrician.
Contact your local school district if you are new to the district or if your child is 4 years old and has not been to Early Childhood Screening.
The screening is paid for by your public school. There is no cost to parents.
